Abstract:
The article presents the aims, functions and importance of literary texts in the process of foreign language acquisition. The main aim of using this kind of texts on foreign language lesson is the necessity of permanent extension and studying the knowledge of new vocabulary. Literature can fulfil in this process the following functions: ; - material for transmission of lexical and grammatical information, - base for the development of listening and reading competence, - model for the development of speaking and writing competence, - material for training translation skills. ; Literature as a teaching material is characterized by rich and differentiated vocabulary, information about realities and culture and also strang emotional influence on a reader (student). Using literary texts in foreign language teaching one must remember about the necessity of their stratification; this kind of text should be avoided in teaching for beginnersand in extensive forms of teaching. ; The didactics of foreign language literature and native language literatura show some similarities but also differences, which are presented in the article. Interpretation plays different part in both didactics the texts of literature perform different tasks on foreign language and native language lessona as a teaching material, different are the principles of literature choice. The similarities between both didactics are shown in the division of aims of literature use according to the period of their duration, that is global and partial aims. The author concludes that literary texts can contribute in a very positive way to the realisation of basic aims of foreign language teaching.
