Funeral speeches in his, his wife Flaccilla's and his daughter Pulcheria's honour were created and are important sources in research concerning the changes in mentality and customs of people at the end of the 4th century.]]></dc:description>
<dc:description xml:lang="en"><![CDATA[Not only the imperial family as the heroes of the speeches, but also the authors of the speeches are fascinating. Gregory of Nyssa and Ambrose, the bishop of Milan are the finest theologians and rhetors of the time. Their speeches had a few goals to achieve: to connect the subjects to the dynasty, but most of all to show the "new" virtues - such as the faith in the Christian God and aiding the church.]]></dc:description>
<dc:description xml:lang="en"><![CDATA[These features differentiated the Christian emperors from their pagan ancestors. Also the references have changed. Now longer the ancient literature, even though both Gregory and Ambrose new it perfectly, but Old and New Testament and the models shown in them were suppose to show the way that the citizens of the Christian Empire had to follow.]]></dc:description>
