Abstract:
The history of each State are determined by its potential economic, demographic, studious, and above all by the geographical environment in which it develops. The fate of the Polish State from the beginning of its existence were determined largely by the two main rivers, the Vistula and the Oder river. Article is about the history of a specific region of Western Poland - Środkowe Nadodrze, which administratively covers with present-day lubuskie voivodship. ; This Region due to its geographical location was a key area for the territorial unity of the states of the first Piast dynasty. Later this region was an important area for the state of Brandenburg and Prussia. In Środkowe Nadodrze crossed major waterways of the Oder, Warta and Noteć. Here clashed political and economic interests of Silesia, greater Poland, Pomerania and the German landowners. Due to its strategic location, the region has become the arena of rivalry between two central European Nations of Poles and Germans.
