The study was carried out in order to answer the following questions: how were the Nobel Prize winner and her work presented? Did ideological variety of newspapers influence on the assessment of the verdict set by the Academy? Did Elfriede Jelinek's political involvement affect the evaluation of her output? A N2 - Austrian writer, who was honored with the most important literary laurels, was almost completely unknown in Poland before 2004. The Swedish Academy appreciated her achievements "for her musical flow of voices and counter-voices in novels and plays that with extraordinary linguistic zeal reveal the absurdity of society's cliches andtheir subjugating power".
