PB - Zielona Góra: Oficyna Wydawnicza Uniwersytetu Zielonogórskiego N2 - Walter Benjamin - a great observer of contemporary days expressed his views on culture, art, literature, history and philosophy with great ease. He always tried to examine cultural facts as a widely comprehended social integrity. With inherent acuteness, he perceived the relationships between sensual perception and the ongoing historical changes. In his opinion, a man undergoes both historie and social changes and the phenomenon of mass production is a sign of those changes. N2 - In W. Benjamin's views, technology plays the basic role in the culture changes process. Thanks to technology there appeared both the possibility to reproduce works of art and the accompanying phenomenon of transition from aurative to non-aurative art. N2 - W. Benjamin as the author of original conception on the influence of technology on the artistic activity expressed in the possibility to reproduce the works of art, may be considered a co-creator of the so called mass culture although he had neither known nor used this definition. N2 - He did not represent catastrophic attitude towards the influence of modern technology on culture, but he referred to cultural transformations which are inevitable. The question is whether a man is able, even in the darkest time, to use those changes for his benefit and not against himself.
