 abstract={"Communication community" is a notion coined by German researchers and transplanted into Polish by Leon Zabrodzki, then specified and developed by Stanisław Borawski. The article discusses the role of communication communities in popularization of the words "dama" and "facet", originally used in jargon, in the vernacular used nationwide.},
 abstract={"Dama" is a borrowing from French, where the word belonged to a high register; it was transferred into Polish culture along with the French lifestyle and other borrowings in the 1700s, under the reign of Marie Casimire, later Sobieska. In the following centuries its signification was enriched by other connotations, without, however, losing its elitist tone.},
 abstract={It is currently part of fixed expressions: "pierwsza dama" ("first lady"), "dama polskiej piosenki/literatury" ("female artist prominent on musical/literary scene"), etc. The National Corpus of Polish notes the lexeme grouped under artistic prose and cultural media discourse.},
 abstract={"Facet" ("guy") (from the Latin "facetus" "charming" originally meant "elegant, polite, witty"; cf . "facecyja" "concept"). From medieval Latin the notion entered the student community and then only in the 1800s made its way into generally used vernacular as a word of low register, derisive, denoting an outsider to one`s sphere, someone of pretentious behavior and attire. As late as in the 20th century, it was still a pejorative name to call "a person of uncertain provenance, a charakter". Nowadays the word is popular particularly with the student community (a possible continuation?), also used by female students.},
 abstract={The National Korpus of Polish points to its great popularity and upgrade in terms of style. It is no longer a mocking term, having even made its way into the jargon of popular science. It has remained a colloquial word, public attitudes towards colloquialisms changed, however. The potential marriage between "dama" and "facet" would nowadays no longer be considered a mismatch.},
