 abstract={Another interest of Castillo that may be traced in her novels is the search for a counter-history of Mexican-Americans connected with their quest for identity and the deconstruction of the utopian Aztlan . In my analysis and interpretation I also focus on the issues of religious syncretism in Castillo`s fiction and her attachment to parody and the grotesque, which is a tribute to her literary master: Gabriel García Márquez .},
