In the 20th century, writers such as Stieg Trenter, Maj Sjowall andPer Wahloo were not only masters of Swedish crime fiction but also chroniclers of the vivid life ofthe capital city. They managed to create a mythical image of Stockholm between the 50's and the 70's, which serves as a frame of reference for the transformations which have taken place in the cultural reception of individual quarters and locations in recent times.}, abstract={The contemporary continuators of last century crime fiction masters reinterpret the urban areaby combining the metaphorical literary map of Stockholm and the modern infrastructure of themetropolis. In my paper I present the way in which such Swedish writers as Stieg Larsson, LizaMarklund and Leif G.W. Persson link their protagonists with specific locations; in this way theyreinterpret familiar places, giving them new meanings, and attaching crime connotations to thenew posts on the map.}, abstract={The writers also define their characters by the locations in which they place them. In the contemporary Swedish crime fiction, as in traditional crime noir detective story, the city of Stockholm has become the character of the same importance as the people strolling down its boulevards or getting lost in its backstreets.
