 abstract={Nowadays, each library, also pedagogical library, tries to compete with other places and offers various forms of spending leisure time. Access to knowledge on the Internet has significantly reduced the number of users of these institutions. In this situation, the idea of "the third place" seems to be fully justifiable. A library,which is the place for scientific work, can become the area of exchanging ideas,consolidating the social ties and the sphere of relax and social integration.The article presents the assumptions of the idea of "the third place" based on the Ray Oldenburg's concept and it states that libraries have all the prerequisites to become such a place for the local community. The described case of Pedagogical Voivodeship Library in Zielona Góra shows the variety of activities that fulfill the growing expectations of the readers. The library's assets were stressed: locationin the city centre, user-friendly equipment, absence of architectural barriers and also special place for the youngest. Numerous educational, literary and cultura lmeetings and cooperation with the local organizations allow the growing number of people to create the character and atmosphere of the pedagogical library.The article draws up a conclusion that a pedagogical library is an area open for everybody who wants to learn and develop, and the essence of the library's successful activity is its diverse offer for a wide circle of users and its professional and constantly developing staff.},
