 abstract={Libraries are no more the only one treasury of information, due to the development of communication, supported by the new digital technologies and media.The quickness of accessing and processing information enforces creating a newmodel of libraries. The concept of "the third place" is one of the suggestions tochange the functioning of a modern library. Therefore, the question arises: could the academic libraries - also influenced by the consequences of the social anddemographic changes - use the concept of "the third place" to their developmentand better functioning in the social environment? The case of The Main Library of Wrocław University of Economics, presented as "the third place", is an attempt to answer this question. Meeting the main requirements: location - interiors - library services - user-friendly management, The Main Library of Wrocław University of Economics is becoming "the third place" for the local community.},
