Synthetic wastewater with an increasing level of ammonium nitrogen (250 and 500 mg N-NH4 +/dm3) and rotating contactors inhabited by nitrifying bacteria were used during the study. N2 - Ammonium nitrogen oxidation was carried out in two simultaneously working laboratory installations: under aerobic conditions (control system) and under low oxygen concentration (research system). The experiment showed that despite the oxygen deficit it was possible to achieve more than 85% ammonium nitrogen removal from the treated wastewater.
