PB - Zielona Góra: Oficyna Wydawnicza Uniwersytetu Zielonogórskiego N2 - The geological studies along the A-4 motorway were conducted by the Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute in 2003-2009. The analysed geological sections varied in length from few hundred meters to several kilometers. The studied area is located within the PreSudetic Block and the North-Sudetic Depression, between the Middle Odra Fault, the Marginal Sudetic Fault and the Main Lusatian Fault. N2 - The heights are composed of the pre-Cainozoic rocks uplifted as a result of Laramide orogenesy. The Neogene deposits are represented by the weathering covers as well as the fluvial and lacustrine sediments of the Poznań Formation and the fluvial deposits of the Gozdnica Formation. The Elsterian deposits consist of the glaciofluvial, glacial and limnoglacial sediments. In early Saalian the extensive alluvial fans were transported to the Sudetic Foreland and subsequently deposited. N2 - The complex of the Elsterian and Neogene sediments was strongly glaciotectonically deformed. It is discordantly overlain by the undeformed glacial and fluvioglacial sediments of Saalian Glaciation. The glaciotectonic deformations were observed in many outcrops within the studied area. Two main regions of intensive glaciotectonical disturbances can be identified, namely: the Wądroże Wielkie massif and the surrounding area as well as the North-Sudetic Depression, between Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec. N2 - At the locations showing strong lithological variability the deformations are mainly discontinuous, like thrusts and glaciotectonic slices. To the contrary, within the monotonous fluvioglacial sediments, the fold defarmation accompanied by the normal faults are observed. The results of the mesostructural measurements indicated the glaciotectonic transport in ESE direction resulting from the strike of the Sudetic Block border. N2 - The horsts of older basement were obstacles for the glacier. Apart from the vertical pressure also the horizontal compression played an important role in deformation. In western part of the studied area - in the region of Węgliniec, the role of pre-Cainosoic basement in formation of glaciotectonical structures was lesser due to its higher depth of occurrence. Here the glaciotectonic transport in N-S direction did not meet any substantial obstacles thus the typical arches of the thrust moraines were jormed (the Slawnikowskie Hills).
