PB - Zielona Góra: Oficyna Wydawnicza Uniwersytetu Zielonogórskiego N2 - One of the negative natural phenomena is soil swelling. It can be effectively limited by decreasing the height of capillary rise of ground water. This paper aims at presenting the model of capillary ascent depending on the kind of soil occurring in the road embankment as well as a type and concentration of solution migrating into the road embankment. N2 - The research was carried out into natural aggregate lying in the area of Zielona Góra and differentiated in a kind of aggregate and its genesis. Analysis of capillary rise was related to the genesis of aggregate and concentration of capillary rise. The results were presented as analysis of triple factor variance, the kind and concentration of compound, type of aggregate and size of aggregate fraction. N2 - The conducted research proved that the ground water shows the maximum height of capillary rise. However, the saturation of ground water with chemical compounds used in winter roads maintenance (NaCl with CaCl2 in weight relation e.g. 4:1) and increase in concentration of those compounds ( from 5% to 10% ) decreases the capillary rise considerably as well as swelling.
